Sitges closed 2022 with an increase in the number of filming

The pace of advertising, television, film and photography filming increased in Sitges in 2022. The increase in filming has led to a parallel increase in the number of days to film audiovisual productions. The data recorded at the end of the year show a positive evolution in the number of filmings, totaling 198, ahead of the 161 in 2021, that is, 23% more. The teams’ stays in the town have also increased. Last year, 287 days of filming were recorded, which represents an increase of 46.43% compared to 2021.

Sitges represents 90% of the audiovisual production managed by NODE Film Clúster/Gran Penedès Film Comission in the Penedès and Garraf regions as a whole. The 198 permits managed in 2022 represented a total of €78,118 in municipal taxes, while in 2021 161 filmings were managed, which had an economic impact of €36,919.

Throughout 2022, direct revenue from filming of nearly €500,000 was achieved, without taking into account payments to third parties, including town entities or private establishments. Regarding individuals (homes, companies, shops, sports and cultural entities, restaurants and establishments) a total of €346,020 has been obtained.

Indirectly, indirect income has also been generated as a result of the filming crews’ stays in the town and also as a result of the media coverage. In 2021, filming in Sitges raised €36,919.09 in municipal taxes and amounted to €169,430 in payments to individuals.

Types of productions

In 2022, 67 filming related to cinema (feature films and series) were made. Compared to the previous year, they have increased by 509.09% since in 2021 only 11 were held, as a result of Covid19. Within this framework, the filming of films and series on platforms has been promoted, among which Palomino (Netflix) and 30 Monedas (season 2 of the series broadcast by HBO) stand out. Other series such as Sin Huellas (Amazon Prime), Rompeolas or Mrs Davis have also been filmed there. ‘Nada’ was the audiovisual production that filmed the most days in 2022 in Sitges. In total he recorded for 42 days.

Other types of productions related to different areas have also been in demand in Sitges, such as the photographic sector, which has gone from 66 in 2021 to 75 in 2022, the advertising sector with 38 advertisements, the world of television with 11 programs and the music video sector with 7 filmings.

Sitges as a film set

The Port of Vallcarca, Garraf Beach, Sant Sebastià Beach, Terramar Gardens, Les Botigues beach in Sitges or the Passeig de la Ribera have been the settings for some of the filming in 2022. Series such as Palomino, or Like it was yesterday from TV3 and brands such as Adidas, Apple, Desigual, American Express, Audi, BMW, Calvin Klein, Codorniu, Heineken, Mango, Mapfre, Massimo Dutti, Seat, Oshiyo, Toyota, Pronovias, Yamaha, Puma, Turisme de Catalunya or Peugeot have filmed in Sitges during 2022.
