The Plenary Hall of Sitges City Council hosted this morning the presentation of the coupon that ONCE will dedicate next Sunday, February 2 to Sitges, as part of the monographic series ‘Film Towns’ dedicated to locations that have been filming locations. In total, five and a half million coupons spread the most iconic image of the town, La Punta.
The presentation was attended by the mayor of Sitges, Aurora Carbonell, the delegate of ONCE in Catalonia, Enric Botí, the councilor for Tourism, Xavier Ripoll, the councilor for Economic Promotion, Albert Oliver-Rodés, and the director of ONCE in the area, Genís Martos. During the event, Enric Botí gave the mayor a reproduction of this coupon, where the church of Sant Bartomeu and Santa Tecla can be seen. Aurora Carbonell wanted to thank this initiative, highlighting that “it is an immense honor for our town to be the protagonist of this coupon and that the image of Sitges is spread in 5.5 million coupons throughout the state”. The mayor also highlighted that “this is a recognition of our essence as a great cinematographic, cultural and creative stage. We are proud to be a film town and to share with ONCE values such as social responsibility, inclusion and solidarity”. The mayor concluded by “inviting everyone to acquire this coupon and continue to support initiatives that make a difference”.
For his part, Botí pointed out that “Sitges is a film location that has been the setting for multiple filming where the municipality has left its mark. I want to acknowledge the citizens, whom we thank for their generosity and trust in our responsible, social and safe lottery products. We therefore share a magnificent space of illusions”, stated the ONCE delegate in Catalonia.
Sitges is a large filming location for films, television programs, advertising campaigns and music videos. In 2024, a total of 140 filming locations were hosted, making the town one of the preferred locations for audiovisual production companies to carry out their filming.
In the audiovisual field, the Sitges – International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia also stands out, considered the most important film festival in the world in the fantasy and horror genre, and one of the most recognized film events in Europe.
This ONCE initiative is a significant boost to the Sitges tourism sector, and contributes to strengthening the municipality’s projection as a leading destination in the national market.
Apart from Sitges, which represents the province of Barcelona, with this film series, ONCE pays tribute to three other Catalan towns, Alcarràs (Lleida), Olot (Girona) and Tarragona.
